About GH

Gunchohavanna is more than just an art label; it is a movement, a sanctuary for Black creatives. Rooted in Kenya, Africa, this vision was born on May 20, 2021, fueled by a dream to promote, protect, and empower artists in every form of expression. What began as a bold idea has grown into a cultural force driven by purpose, passion, and identity.

The journey started with a simple yet powerful mission: to create a home for creatives. After experimenting with different names, Gunchohavanna felt perfect, inspired by the spirit of Dreamville Records. The name symbolizes a haven, a safe and powerful space where creators are free to be themselves and showcase their artistry to the world. From day one, the mission was clear: uplift 254 creators and build a legacy that speaks for itself.

As the dream took shape, one thing became painfully clear, writers were often overlooked in the creative space. That realization gave birth to our original motto, “Appreciation.” At Gunchohavanna, every artist deserves to be valued, recognized, and rewarded. We believe creative work should grow in worth over time, just like poetry that gains reverence with each generation. Our goal is to create timeless art that resonates far beyond the present moment.

As we evolved, so did our identity. Our new motto, “Sui Generis”, Latin for of its own kind reflects exactly who we are. Gunchohavanna isn’t here to break the rules; we set the trend. We don’t follow culture, we shape it.

What began in Kenya has now expanded beyond borders. With new branches growing in Ghana and Nigeria, Gunchohavanna is transforming from a national movement into a continental vision. Africa is not just part of our story; it is our goal. We are building a pan-African network of writers, poets, and visual artists united by originality, authenticity, and purpose.

From 254 to the rest of the continent, Gunchohavanna is creating a home for African creativity, bold, timeless, and truly Sui Generis.

OUR MISSION

We exist to entertain, address, and home creativity. Gunchohavanna is a powerhouse of artistic expression, where storytelling, music, poetry, and visual art merge to create something greater than the sum of its parts. But our mission goes beyond art, we aim to educate and uplift society through literary programs, ensuring that even the less fortunate have access to knowledge and inspiration.

OUR VISION

We are pioneering a generation that values literacy, preserves culture, and honors history while staying deeply connected to the beauty of art. Gunchohavanna strives to be a force of positive impact, shaping the future by preserving the essence of humanity and creative expression.

Leon Natay

President, Writer

Through my writing, I explore themes such as social justice, oppression, and political injustice. While my work often touches on love, agony, and betrayal, I’m driven by a commitment to giving a voice to the marginalized, advocating for men navigating a harsh world, while simultaneously championing the empowerment of women and the pursuit of gender equality.

Diana Indigo

Vice President, Writer

I love writing because through the artistic flow of words, I am able to tap into emotions, both my own and those of others too. This passion has helped me in so many ways, most importantly, uplifting others who dream, desire and dare to try. The journey of expression has been beautifully enhanced by Gunchohavanna, which has guided me to explore the depths of art even further.

Simeon Jamhuri

Creative Director, Writer

Poetry is the most beautiful form of expression, a way to make sense of worlds and the emotions it stirs. I’m a Kenyan poet who crafts verses that are both deeply personal and, hopefully, universally relatable. I find cryptic manipulation of words to be the best way of conveying messages and inviting readers to connect with their own inner landscapes and find solace in shared human experiences.

Lovia Malusi

Brand Secretary, Writer

I write about love, life, heartbreak, anxiety, and all the random emotional plot twists in between. Think of my writing as a cross between a late-night voice note and an overthinker’s diary. Some poems are soft and romantic, others are just me trying to survive the day with my brain in one piece. If you’ve ever cried, laughed, panicked, or fallen in love over text, welcome to my little corner of chaos and honesty.
