“She loves me, she loves me not,”

“She loves me, she loves me not…”

I softly speak these words while plucking the petals of a sulky red cosmos flower. I have watched people do this in the movies, and I tend to wonder why they question the state of their love. It’s said that the final petal seals fate. Who knew such a small thing could mean so much more?

As I sit at the edge of the pool flapping my feet, I let my thoughts take control. Many questions linger as to how all this came to be. My world has been different since she came into my life. She has been a loyal friend even in the days I was my own enemy. All through the darkest of days, she has been there by my side. Believing in me and hyping me all through. She has been more than a support system; she has been the other half of me. My other half!

Whenever I was broken, she put me back together. Whenever I was lonely, she stretched out her hand and shared her love. She has been there for my soul. And now she is more like my soul food. She is the perfect fit. And she belongs to me!

At the patio, she sways on the hammock dressed in her favorite pink Fenty lingerie as she naps after a long party weekend. Beside her is the black coffee table and on it sits a bottle of Scottish vodka, a bag of tortilla chips, her favorite, together with a blunt and lighter. And a used Durex pack. Well, you can tell how big of a party it was.

Alusa’s melody, sex & marijuana, plays on the background and the lyrics speak for itself, ‘Feeling it taking over, like something in the water, couldn’t even get to know you, just sex n marijuana’.

That line caught my attention and that of my Miss. She had woken up from her little siesta and was vibing along to the muziki as she rolled up another blunt. I smiled at her because I was happy at her intention of baking as we watched the sunset. Though she was already ablaze from her eyes.

“I thought I was the only one supposed to be your pedi, pedi wa mapenzi?”

She smiles back and joins me at the shores, where we loved to watch the beautiful scenic sunset. As she comes, I hum the tune to ‘hear comes the bride’, and she takes to her acting, swaying her hips and majestically walking towards me as she blushes gently.

The beach was our daily go-to place as it was blissfully remote and granted the peace and serenity that we both yearned for. We heavily reminisced on our beautiful moments and danced a little bit of salsa, shared a toast and puffed a little to clear our minds. Well, we live by the motto, YOLO.

As the sun set, the yellow-orange rays touched our backyard and that blended such a beautiful view as nightfall crept in.

Her cheeky smile and naughty character mean everything to me. Though she may have been hurt, I know that she is my strong woman always and forever. She knows the same about my various down moments in life too. As much as we love, we are also best of friends and understand our strengths and weaknesses. That is our type of love. She was the first person I felt both wildly unsure and unwaveringly certain of. That was actually the scariest part about falling in love with her. The fact that I had no idea what I was doing, but at the same time, I knew exactly why I had to. And maybe that same night it all started, the stars had shined so that we would align, and our hearts would connect.

Yes, we do bring out the best out of each other. To me she comes first like rent due and I promised her that I will be the hand to hold her tears and still be her shoulder. Life has brought us through the best and worst moments but in all we have been strong. Together! I have no doubt that she is the perfect one, our future together bright as her smile and long as bamboo. Rain falls on everyone, it’s just that some get wetter than others. But eventually, the rain stops. I will be her umbrella.

I will fight to be her lover, her best friend, her batman, her spiderman and one and only man. I want to be the one to heal and fill her up. To be the one to pull and toss her under. The one she runs and cries to. And to be the one she spends a lifetime with. No matter where, no matter what, I will always be by her side. Nyota Wangu!

As the tide conquers, the ocean waves lush gently on our feet. The night is warm, and the wind blows past us. And now the stars shine on us.

As we watch the ocean, she turns and looks into my eyes, asking;

“What do you know about love?”

“Well, I know what I do for love…,

I would give you the world,

So, you could see how much I love,

And maybe one day, give me a piece of your heart,

For I know that I will keep it safe,

Let’s get with it, if you with me,

We can, roll some, smoke one, pop two get high,

And maybe I can be the one to put the light on you,

You give me time to get this dime,

I can take the lime out of you,

And put the smile back on you!”

Stunned, I grab her waist from her rear, as I follow down to her thick thighs. She chuckles and takes pride in the warm embrace. Rubbing her bubbly tummy brings out the giggles as she charms my ‘naughty’ hand and takes my pinky finger and making a promise about how we will rewrite the stars with our love.

I hold her gently and smell her amazing fragrance and appreciate her perfect body. Her beautiful stretchmarks round her waist down to her thighs add that tasty flavor to her sexy body. Mmh! My whole snack.

Indeed, I know that she is my pulchritude, and she is mine, I’m Her’s!

“Te amo y quiero estar loca contigo”.

I live knowing that I have a woman to love me in my forty’s. This little daily embrace and lovely talk with her makes me feel alive and whole. It’s like I am in a little heaven. You can call it madness, but I call it love, and for me this is a sweet heaven with my all-time favorite. In our Guatemala. It is definitely dulce Cielo!
